Oakley Meta smart glasses bring better video and 8-hour battery life from $399

Meta has just announced its new Oakley smart glasses which function much like existing Ray-Ban models at their core, but have a few key upgrades, including better battery life and video quality.

Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses have been on the market for the better part of two years now, with the display-less glasses finding popularity for their ability to easily shoot POV videos, play music through open-ear headphones, and, to a lesser extent, leverage some handy AI-powered features.

Meta is clearly acknowledging that first use case with its latest pair of smart glasses, built in collaboration with Oakley. The focus is on athletes and just overall outdoor activity. As Meta explains:

Oakley Meta glasses are versatile smart glasses, made for athletes and everyday wear on and off the field, trail, or track.

Upgrades to Oakley Meta glasses start with better video quality. The 12MP camera captures higher-resolution 3K video compared to 1080p on Ray-Ban models. This will benefit from the other big upgrade, which is in the battery life. These new glasses will have 8-hour battery life, up from just 4 hours on Ray-Ban.

Beyond that, you’ll also get Oakley’s sporty design and better lenses with “Prizm and Prizm Polarized for impact and UV protection.”

Starting on July 11, “Oakley Meta HSTN Limited Edition” will be available starting at $499. These special releases will feature “gold accents and 24K Prizm Polar lenses,” and will precede a larger lineup coming “this Summer” starting at $399. Ray-Ban glasses remain available from $299.
